Less Motivation. More Discipline.

Being in the health & fitness space, I constantly have people coming up to me spilling the negative news they got from their doctor regarding their health and how they need to implement a change, always followed by "I just need to find motivation".

I have people tell me how bad they want to become healthier, but they just don't know where to find the motivation.

I have people message me about how they absolutely hate their job or they just flat out want to follow their dream of being their own boss, but they just "don't know where to start".

I try my best to be empathetic and give them words to set them on the right track the best I can... but I'd be lying if I said that these things don't irritate me.

Fix your mindset. It's not motivation you need - its discipline. The motivation of being miserable at your job day to day should be enough. The motivation of looking at an empty bank account or looking at the scale showing you proof that you're 100 pounds overweight should be enough. The doctor telling you that "you need to get to working out and eating right or else you're going to die" should fucking be enough. You have plenty of "motivation". You need discipline.

You have plenty of "motivation". You need discipline.

Discipline is the action you take to keep the commitment to whatever it is you're trying to accomplish.

Discipline is what makes you choose chicken and broccoli over the Big Mac at lunch.

Discipline is what makes you go workout at 5pm when you get off work and it's the last thing in the world that you want to do.

Discipline is what forces you to write a blog post when you're not in the mood to but you know it helps map you to where you want to be (me, right now).

Self discipline is a learned behavior and is really the differentiator between the successful & not successful in every area of life (fitness, family, finances, work, etc.) and you get the opportunity to practice discipline multiple times every day.

You get the opportunity to keep the commitment to yourself of "I'm going to get healthy", "I'm going to save money", "I'm going to build a business"... Can you keep a commitment to yourself?

"YOU OWE YOU." Listen to the video below. ET spits it best.
